Product Update: Notifications, Avatars, and Stronger Security

Staying in the Loop

Goal-setting is a team sport. When someone updates a key result, changes a deadline, or invites a new member, the rest of the team should know — without having to refresh the page or ask in chat.

With v0.4.0-alpha, ValYouRise introduces real-time notifications and several quality-of-life improvements that make daily OKR work smoother.

Real-Time Notifications

The new notification system surfaces key events as they happen:

• Invitations: Get notified when you are invited to a new organization or workspace.
• Role changes: Know immediately when your permissions are updated.
• OKR updates: See when items in your workspaces are modified.

Notifications appear in the top navigation bar and are accessible from any page in the private space. No more guessing whether something changed while you were away.

Avatars Everywhere

People recognize faces faster than names. ValYouRise now supports avatar uploads for both users and organizations. Avatars appear throughout the application — in member lists, on the board, in settings, and in notifications.

It is a small change with an outsized impact on how human the interface feels. When you see your team's faces next to their objectives, goal ownership becomes tangible.

OKR Board Progression UX

The board view now includes visual progress indicators directly on nodes. At a glance, you can see:

• Which objectives are on track.
• Where key results are stalling.
• How actions contribute to overall progress.

Status transitions are smoother, and the visual hierarchy makes it easier to focus on what needs attention.

Security: PAT Scope Enforcement

Under the hood, this release significantly strengthens API security. Personal Access Tokens (PATs) are now validated server-side on every API route with strict scope enforcement:

• Tokens are scoped to the minimum required permissions.
• The UI masks tokens after creation — you see them once, then never again.
• Invalid or over-scoped tokens are rejected before they reach any business logic.

This is invisible to most users, but it is the kind of security work that matters when organizations trust ValYouRise with their strategic goals.

Bilingual Content

All blog content now ships with full English and German translations, using the same component pattern we use across the product. Whether your team prefers English or German, the reading experience is equally polished.

What Comes Next

With notifications keeping teams informed and avatars making the interface more personal, the stage is set for our next milestone: a zero-friction demo mode and full mobile support.
